To keep you occupied while we evaluate the pieces submitted to us for Issue #7, we have now uploaded Issue #5 as a PDF for you to download for free. If you submitted, we’ll get back to you ASAP to let you know if you’re in or out. Keep checking that email! Expect a launch party for Issue #7 at Swizzles as part of the Dusty Owl Reading Series in September.

Issue #6 Release April 28

The kind folks at In/Words, our parent corporation (as it were), are letting us ride their coattails for our launch. It will take place at the monthly Open Mic on Wednesday, April 28, in the downstairs room of the Clocktower Pub, starting at 8pm. As well as Issue Six of the M&P, the new issue of In/Words will also be available.

There is even a featured reader, hometown hero David O’Meara! The open mic is open to anyone, so please get there early and sign up. RSVP to the Facebook event here.

Please note, there is a $1 cover this time. According to the Facebook event, In/Words “will be seeking a small donation of $1 from each attendant, so be prepared and bring a loonie… If that’s just not your style (I mean, if you’re cheap), bring [...] a canned good so [they] can help out the Ottawa Food Bank… even cheapos can’t complain about that!”

Sex-Esteem…Get Educated March 10

Editors of the Moose & Pussy will be reading material at the Sex-Esteem fundraiser at Rooster’s Coffee House, 4th Floor University Centre, Carleton University, on Wednesday, March 10 at 8:15pm.

Second, the big news, The Moose & Pussy Issue Five (The Moose & Pussy Vs. The Sexless Marriage), will be launching on Tuesday, January 26th at the Mercury Lounge at 56 Byward Market Square in partnership with Place Records’ electronic music night. Artists include pH and Adam Saikaley.

So come out for an evening of sexy readings and rad beats in a venue that looks like something out of a David Lynch film, starting at 9pm. Facebook Event here. All past contributors are welcome to come out and read as well, even if you don’t have anything printed in the current issue. Copies will be on sale, and they’re looking good!

#4 Launch / 1yr Anniversary September 6

Happy birthday to us — It’s the one-year anniversary of our inaugural issue! Come to Swizzles Bar & Grill Sunday September Sixth at Six-thirty pm for arousing readings by contributors to our fourth issue: The Animals Issue, or The Bestiary, which includes an epic love poem inspired by the BBC, forty naked cyclists on Bank St., odes to oral sex, a defence of ‘C’ words, and a carnival of critters. Also, half of sales proceeds go to the Ottawa AIDS Walk, so come out in support of good sex.

Contributors include writing by Bryan Borland, Jamie Bradley, David Brennan, Mark Burns Cassell, Warren Dean Fulton, Samantha Everts, Peggy Hogan, Brendan Inglis, Julie Innis, Ben Ladouceur, Calum Marsh, shawn mcmillan, Justin Million, Leah Mol, Mark Naser, Shannon Rayne, and Chelsey Storey, plus art by Becky Beach, Tanya Decarie and Kristel Jax.

Wicked Wanda’s HIV Fundraiser/Fashion Show/Classy Party

Our good friend Wicked Wanda & co. are throwing a benefit fundraiser Thursday August 20th at Club SAW. The event will feature a “Wicked Wanda Wear” (lingerie/intimates) fashion show, music by Juno Award Winner Korexian and Debiiey, professional body make-up, sensual belly-dancing, and if you opt for the VIP package, a red carpet walkway and gourmet food by Cordon Bleu-trained chef. Pretty awesome, eh?

The long lusted-for third issue of The Moose & Pussy is about to come. Issue #3: For Pseudonyms, Souls, will be first released at the Montgomery Legion, Thursday April 30th. We’ll be launching along with the announcement of the winners of In/Words Magazine & Press’ first poetry contest. It’ll be a casual evening and there will be an open mic, and we invite contributors and anyone who wants to be heard to participate. Plus, show up early for a some heartfelt folk by the Rasputin’s Refugees. Details below.

We’re proud and humbled by the astounding amount of well-executed sex we received during out last submission call. It has been a challenge to get through so much art without needing a change of pants. A very sincere thank you to everyone who submitted.

We are very happy to be screening, thanks to the Carleton Film Society, SHORTBUS! It may be one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, and not just because it is jam-packed with uncensored sex. If you plan to be in the Ottawa-area, here are the details:

November 21st, 6pm CFS workshop, 7pm movie. Room 400 of St. Patrick’s Building at Carleton University.

Only $2 to get in (free for CFS members). If you’re interested in film making, I highly suggest showing up early for the workshop. Then you can be all educated and insightful as you analyze money shots.

The M&P Launches; no morning after regrets

Thanks to Swizzle’s and The Dusty Owl for hosting our launch on Sunday. Together we raised over a hundred dollars for the AIDS Walk and we’ll keep raising money for better sex through mag sales. We’ll have a list up ASAP with locations where you can get the mag (or track us down!). Expect to see it at Tuesday’s The Romance Store, Wicked Wanda’s Adult Emporium, Dare To Be Naughty and Mother Tongue Books.
